Tree to Table: Turning Your Trees Into Usable Lumber

Saturday, October 30th 9:00 a.m. to Noon. Arnot Forest – Van Etten, NY. Experts will demonstrate and share advice for the process of selecting and harvesting trees, and sawing and caring for “do it yourself” project-ready lumber. The morning will include a demonstration of small-scale logging equipment by Cornell Cooperative Extension foresters, a portable sawmilling mini-clinic by Mike Grover of Saw it Coming (www.sawitcoming.net), and a discussion of post-milling care and use by Ben Hobbs of Stanton Hill Studios (https://www.stantonhillstudios.com) who has 20 years of experience with “tree to table” projects. The workshop will take place rain or shine at Cornell’s Arnot Teaching and Research Forest; 611 (Schuyler) County Road 13; Van Etten. This event is sponsored by the NY Forest Owners Association with support from Cornell Cooperative Extension, and all are welcome to attend. There will be a $10 fee payable at the door to cover workshop expenses. Sessions will take place outdoors, so please dress for the weather! Hearing protection is recommended for milling session.
