Recycle Right: Navigating the Recycling Industry

  • Tuesday, July 22, 2025, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Do you find yourself confused when it comes to recycling? It’s easy to become overwhelmed when determining what is accepted and what should be thrown away. If you’re eager to learn more about recycling, Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension, Schuyler County Planning Department, and the Cayuga County Planning Department will be offering the free educational event, “How To Recycle Right: Navigating the Recycling Industry” on Tuesday July 22nd at 6:00pm.

Participants will be given the choice to attend online or at one our three in-person “watch party” locations:

  • Schuyler County: Room 120 of The Human Services Complex at 3232 Owego Street, Montour Falls in Schuyler County, NY
  • Seneca County: The CCE Conference Room at 369 East Main Street, Waterloo, NY in Seneca County;
  • Cayuga County: The CCE Office at 248 Grant Ave, Auburn, NY in Cayuga County.

Experts from Syracuse University Institute for Sustainability Engagement, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Division of Materials Management, and Sunnking Sustainable Solutions will share important information about recycling. Attendees will gain a better understanding of the current recycling industry through such topics as curbside single-stream, “return to store” recycling options, flow of recycling materials in NYS, regulated recycling facilities, NYS Solid Waste Management Plan, and challenges of hard-to-recycle materials like electronics and batteries.

Presenters include Lindsey Eberhart, Program Associate, Syracuse University Institute for Sustainability Engagement, Victoria Lannon, Environmental Program Specialist, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Region 8, Division of Materials Management, and Paola Viera, Community Programs Manager, Sunnking Sustainable Solutions.

This educational program is FREE to attend/participate, but registration is required for this hybrid program. Note, there are two different registration processes depending on your preference to participate- either by webinar or in-person.
