Ag & Farmland Protection

The Schuyler County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board addresses opportunities and challenges prompted by economic and demographic changes in the Central Finger Lakes region of New York. Members of the board consist of farmers, county legislators, educators, agriculture technicians, veterinarians, and community leaders.

Under Article 25-AAA of the Agriculture and Markets Law, the Commissioner is authorized to assist county governments in developing agricultural and farmland protection plans to maintain the economic viability of the State’s agricultural industry and its supporting land base.

On an as-needed basis, the AFPB will review and comment on projects involving farmland protection and local agriculture policies. Because farming is diversified in Schuyler County, the Board investigates a broad range of issues each year.
